In case you’ve been ignoring all the Eaten Alive links on Facebook because you assumed it was some clickbait scam, let us start by telling you that it’s the real deal.

Eaten Alive is a two-hour long special on the Discovery Channel that was broadcasted last Sunday (December 7, 2014). The hype preceding the show promised viewers what the name suggests. In it, naturalist Paul Rosolie would – supposedly – be eaten alive. This, according to Paul’s website, is supposed to bring awareness to the habitat destruction and hunting that anacondas are subject to. But perhaps the reason why people are hunting anacondas is because they’re afraid of being eaten by them… which is what Paul is doing right now?

Eh, logic is overrated anyways.

This show became the network’s highest-rated nature telecast with 4.1 million viewers on Sunday night. For the video, Paul wore a protective outfit doused in pig’s blood to entice the anaconda into swallowing him. However, he bailed after only getting the anaconda to swallow his head. According to an interview, he revealed that he felt as if the snake was going to break his arm, and that was why he called quits.

The public will have none of that, however. While there are animal lovers who are enraged by this publicity stunt that could have harmed the snake, most went to Twitter to express their dissatisfaction on how he was not eaten alive.

The answer to “Do you want Paul to be eaten alive?” was responded with a resounding “YES!” That is, after all, what the title of the show promised. People are calling it the Biggest TV Letdown.

We collected some of the best and funniest responses from Twitter following Paul’s failure to die get eaten.

Personally, I haven’t watched the show and have no plans to. The publicity stunt, while clever, has no real point to it. Why exactly is Paul doing this? Why does he think being eaten by an anaconda will stop deforestation?

In other news, Paul responded to Jimmy Kimmel in his show, “I think I owe it to the people of planet earth to get eaten by something, no?” We won’t be holding our breath waiting for this next stunt though.
