The article we wrote also made its rounds on social media.

But in case you missed it, Taxi-Taxi@SG is a free app launched by Singapore’s Land Transport Authority, which aims to help commuters locate idle taxis. While LTA’s intentions were good, as the app aggregates the location of Singapore’s entire taxi fleet (28,000 taxis), users are unable to book the taxis. For taxi drivers, they would also have to download the app to see where commuters are. Because of this, netizens have been mocking the use of the app.

In response to all the negative feedbacks, an LTA spokesman, told Straits Times that the app is indeed not designed for the booking of taxis. He also added that they “will monitor users’ feedback and enhance the app based on feedback received”.

“One possible enhancement is to link it to third-party apps.”

So for those that find the Taxi-Taxi@SG app useful, this might be good news for you.

According to the same report on Straits Times, as of yesterday afternoon, the LTA app had been downloaded 16,000 times. It became the most downloaded free app on the iTunes briefly yesterday before dropping down to second spot on the App store. The app received mixed reviews on the app store.
