If you’re wondering if 2015 will be a good year, former astronaut Chris Hadfield has a strong argument for you. In a thought-provoking video that is now trending in the YouTube space, he explains quite briefly how the human race has come very far, and why it’s a cause for celebration.

“There are problems with everything, and nothing’s yet perfect,” says Hadfield. “But that shouldn’t be cause to bemoan – that should be cause to achieve.”

Hadfield goes on to cite reasons why the human race has come a long way, saying that we are at an “all-time high for health and wellness”, literacy is still sharply increasing, people are living longer than ever, and diseases like Malaria are on their way to being eradicated thanks to R&D funding.

He then ends with a call for action – “It all starts with a resolution. What’s yours?”

Hadfield can be seen as YouTube’s favourite astronaut, having gone viral with his rendition of David Bowie’s Space Oddity, which was sung and recorded while in space!
