Newly Launched The Mobile Bay Lets You Torrent From Your Smartphone!

Pirate Bay, the world’s largest torrent site where users can download files from, has just rolled out a whole new mobile optimized website called The Mobile Bay.

The Mobile Bay is designed to work better on smartphones and tablets, both platforms where increasingly more users are accessing their content from. Similar to its main site, The Mobile Bay pretty much has the same features: you can search, browse, or view the Top 100 torrents on The Mobile Bay.

As tech blog TechCrunch pointed out, on iOS, users won’t be able to actually download torrents from their mobile device if it’s not jailbroken, but the BlackBerry and Android app stores have a variety of torrenting clients to choose from.

The team behind the Pirate Bay also told Torrent Freak in an interview that “the normal version of the site renders like crap on mobile devices.”

One of The Pirate Bay’s strengths has been its resilience. No matter how hard the movie and music industries try to bring it down, the site remains operational. However, while users around the world may be rejoicing for the good news, Singaporeans might not be able to enjoy The Mobile Bay.

The country has just passed new amendments to its Copyright Act, allowing rights holders to apply to the courts for injunctions demanding local Internet service providers such as SingTel or StarHub to block access to infringing sites.

The new law, which comes into effect this end August, was first proposed and debated in April 2014, and will have the most impact on websites such as The Pirate Bay.
