Singapore’s Megafash Holds Mega Singapore Sale So You Can Burn Your Angbao Money

It’s the same old story every year: in the days leading up to the Chinese New Year, I’m all gung ho and ready to eat everything in sight despite my general intolerance for the festival. But by the end of the first day, I’m dead beat: my cheek muscles are sore from a full day of forced grinning, I’m lethargic after a massive carb overload and I just want to get away from everybody after hours of socialising.

The only plus point? I find myself a couple hundred dollars richer, thanks to a hard day’s work at distant relatives’ homes. (Trying my best to be a smiley version of my usual sullen self is hard work… right?)

And Megafash — which I previously gushed about — has found the perfect way to make this situation work in our favour: by holding a huge online sale, of course! Singaporeans love online shopping, and with more than 90% of our population owning a smartphone, shopping can be done anywhere, and at any time — even while you’re out visiting.

Event dates

Starting this Saturday on February 21 (that’s the third day of CNY, for anyone who’s keeping count) and lasting till February 28, Megafash’s Mega Singapore Sale will be taking place, and will feature about 100 local and international brands.

What’s it about?

The one-week online sale event will see participating brands offering up to 90% discounts on their products. Shoppers from Singapore will also see brands and products previously unavailable locally, thanks to Megafash’s partnerships with international curators like Indonesia’s Shopdeca.

The sale will include items ranging from clothes to lifestyle and design-centred products, and shoppers who use apps like Between and Hotel Quickly also get early access to the sale and discounted bookings respectively.

Even with such a large scale event, though, the folks at Megafash are looking out for young, local brands looking to make their mark in the ecommerce scene. Co-founder of Megafash, Ngeow Jiawen, explained, “This is an event which empowers local makers and entrepreneurs by driving traffic and sales to them within a limited time. We hope to see a lot of brands gain a foothold in the market as a result of these efforts.”

This means that shopping during the Mega Singapore Sale will not only benefit us consumers (the effect of retail therapy is real, you guys) but also help up-and-coming brands establish themselves. And since it’s the festive season, it’s probably a good idea to start accumulating all that good karma our older relatives like to tell us about.

So have your angbaos at the ready, get settled at your favourite spot on the sofa at grandma’s house, and be prepared for some serious shopping this CNY.
