Couple’s app Between teamed up with music streaming service Deezer in their new survey to find out what couples — specifically those in Thailand and Singapore — listen to to get themselves into the romantic mood. The survey included over 700 users across Singapore and Thailand, and they’ve gotten some interesting results.
When asked what type of songs would be in the soundtrack of a movie featuring their relationship, most in Thailand picked the “Asian” genre at 30%, followed closely by the “Pop” genre at 29%. Unsurprisingly, Hip-hop, R&B, Rock, Dance and Electro music were the least chosen genres of soundtrack. It’s not too hard to imagine why Electronic dance music didn’t do as well. After all, it does kind of ruin the moment when you’re reaching in for a kiss, only to hear Skrillex’s “Bangarang”, “Fucking Die 1”, or “Make It Bun Dem” blasting in the background. Or maybe that works for you too. Whatever floats your boat.
Songs in the soundtrack included popular ones like Maroon 5’s Sugar and Ed Sheeran’s Thinking Out Loud. Of course, the ever popular All of Me by John Legend was not left out. Number 1 in the list of songs is จูบ (Kiss) by Jetset’er. I’d never heard that song before, and was curious enough to check out the song on YouTube.
Meanwhile, in Singapore, 38% of respondents thought the best soundtrack to accompany the movie featuring their relationship are Blues, Classical, and Jazz music. 21% went for Pop music, and 12% preferred Asian music.
The songs in the soundtrack that they chose were typical of the popular pop music that can be heard on radio stations (on repeat) today, such as All of Me by John Legend, Thinking out Loud by Ed Sheeran and Blank Space by Taylor Swift. Singaporeans appear to be appreciative of oldies too, with Nothing’s Gonna Change My Love For You by George Benson released in 1984 at #3, Fly me to the Moon by Frank Sinatra recorded in 1954 at #4, and Careless Whisper by George Michael released in 1984 at #6. The video for Careless Whisper is steamy, by the way!
Speaking of steamy, the second section of the survey asked for the perfect songs to support an on-screen kiss and… ahem… passionate scenes. Thai respondents still preferred Asian songs at 34%, followed by “Pop” music at 29%. On the other hand, 24% of Singaporean couples chose “Blues” and 24% chose “Pop” music.
What kind of music turns you on? I’m not picky when it comes to my music, as long as it’s not Rebecca Black’s Friday playing on loop.
Yesterday was Thursday, Thursday.
