Where are Indonesians shopping online? These 3 websites should give you a good idea

Berrybenka started off as a small fashion store in Indonesia, and has now turned into an online shopping destination for a lot of Indonesian.

Yesterday, the company announced that it has received an investment of $5 million from Japan based IT outsourcing company TransCosmos and GREE Ventures.

With the new investment, the Indonesia based e commerce store will be expanding its product categories and logistical capabilities such as cash-on-delivery and one-day delivery options, on top of launching new mobile apps and a personalization and recommendation service to build a holistic shopping experience for its customers.

Berrybenka currently has over 500 brands on its platform, providing affordable clothing lines for the typical Indonesian female consumer. Earlier in January, Berrybenka shared with technology blog e27 that it had over 600,000 monthly unique visitors with over 3,000 stock-keeping units offered on its site. 80 percent of Berrybenka customers are from Java, while the rest are from the other parts of Indonesia.

Other than Berrybenka, there are also several other shopping sites for technology savvy Indonesians whom are comfortable with online shopping. Another popular online shopping destination for Indonesians is home grown Tokopedia, which had more than 16,000 merchants on its platform, starting their individual online stores. Earlier in June, Tokopedia revealed that they have over 770,000 product listings on its site.

 

Other than home grown brands such as Berrybenka and Tokopedia, several other foreign brands are also trying to set up their online shop in to appeal to Indonesian online shoppers. One of them is Zalora, which also has presence around Southeast Asia countries such as Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, Philippine, Thailand and Hong Kong.

 

Earlier in April, Zalora Indonesia managing director Hadi Wenas says that the site’s traffic reaches up to 200,000 visitors every day. It also carried over 30,000 fashion items from over 600 brands on its website.

If every visitors to the site spend $50 per visit, you are looking at $10 million in daily revenue.

Of course, that’s assuming if every visitor end up purchasing an item.
