Kickstarter Pick of the Week is Vulcan Post’s brand new weekly series where we share some of the most noteworthy and creative projects that pose to make positive improvements in our lives. Come across anything interesting on crowdfunding websites? Let us know at team@vulcanpost.com!

We’re no strangers to this: drinking water undeniably has a lot of benefits. They make our skin glow and flush out toxins in our body. Whether be it on social media, TV shows, or even from our parents (which usually happens when we fall sick all too often), we are constantly reminded to raise a glass and drink up.

The problem is we have to carry a bulky plastic water bottle wherever we go. And they don’t usually look good in our bag, as it is already chock-full of books and our laptop. Aiming to put a stop to this is an Australian duo who recently came up with a design that is going to knock your socks off.

Enter the memobottle, a “durable, dishwasher-friendly, long-life water bottle constructed from BPA-free Tritan.” As shown on its Kickstarter page, it’s leak-proof, transparent and able to stand up unassisted. The memobottle comes in three sizes: A4, A5 and Letter. The latter is the largest of its counterparts; it’s 216mm by 279mm and can hold up to 1.25 litres.

The memobottle founders, Jesse Leeworthy and Jonathan Byrt, are aiming to minimise the amount of single-use plastic bottles that are being manufactured everyday. On their Kickstarter page, they share that there are more than 50 million single-use water bottles sold globally last year and that reusable plastic bottles are 80% more environmentally friendly. According to The Water Project, U.S. landfills are constantly crammed full with 2 million tons of discarded water bottles.

Evidently, the memobottle has the same function as the traditional water bottle — you can freeze water in it. Little tip: make sure not to fill it to the very top before freezing, as it’s a known fact that water expands when it’s frozen.

The duo shares that as it is very difficult to clean the corners, the best method would be to use the water bottle cleansing tablets. However, in their latest update, both Leeworthy and Byrt state that they are currently working on a specialised memobottle scrub brush that cleans around the corners.

“The memobottle is the balance between environmental responsibility and improved life convenience.”

The Kickstarter project has been well received so far; it has since achieved AUD$191,857 out of its AUD$15,000 goal. With 19 more days to go, memobottle is already making waves in several publications such as Daily Mail and Uncrate.

The estimated delivery date is December 2014 (How’s that for a Christmas gift?). Additionally, every bottle purchased will come with both black and white lids. The Kickstarter project currently stands at 4671 backers and if it hits 5000, memobottle leather and wool-felt sleeves will be made available — that is, if backers add AUD$17 to their pledge amount per bottle.

Verdict:

Memobottle is one of those products that made a lot of sense! True, we’re going to need some time to get used to the shape of the bottle as we’re all creatures of habit. It would be even better if there’s a wider range of the size variety, because let’s face it, not many of us drink that much.
