Night Terrors Is The Realistic Horror Game That Takes Place In Your Own House

Are you the kind of horror movie buff who was unfazed by The Ring? Did The Eye and Ju-On leave you more entertained than terrified? If so, Night Terrors might just be the ultimate challenge for you.

Night Terrors is an upcoming mobile app that promises to be “the scariest game ever made”. And it’s not hard to see why: in place of a run-of-the-mill creepy jungle or abandoned house, the plot of Night Terrors will take place in your house.

Using augmented reality, the app can draw on the environment you’re in, processing that information in real time in order to place ghosts and other horrors on-screen. In this storyline, you won’t be a passive observer, but the main character — you’ll have to walk around your dark house, eyes fixed on your phone screen, to save someone’s life. The result is an immersive game that promises to be pants-wettingly, spine-chillingly terrifying.

Currently, Night Terrors is seeking crowdfunding on Indiegogo, with an impressive 21,000 USD already pledged by more than a thousand people in just four days. Donating will get you an even more realistic (read: frightening) experience, with rewards including the chance to have your face included in the game as a demon.

Night Terrors is pretty much the first horror app to turn the familiar terrifying with augmented reality, and for horror fans jaded by the same old special effects in every movie, it might just do the trick. When Night Terrors is finally released, it looks set to revolutionise the horror genre. That, and you won’t be able to go to the toilet at night without getting spooked by ghostly flashbacks ever again.
