Originally from the U.K., Mark O’Dea came to Malaysia in 2013 as a member of the boy band “The London Boys” to tour around Kuala Lumpur. Currently based in KL, Mark is one of the regular presenters on The 8TV Quickie, ESPN FC in Singapore, and will soon be the latest addition to Astro Supersports this coming August.
His YouTube Channel which features song covers, pranks and a travel show has over a million views. Other than that, he was on the cover of Mens Health Magazine May 2015 issue. Interested in him yet? We approached Mark to talk about his love for fitness, and asked him for some health related tips.
What fitness related mobile apps do you use?
To be honest with you, I don’t use any apps when it comes to my fitness! I’ve tried a few but they are too technical for me and I prefer to ask for advice from the professionals face-to-face instead of from an app!
Do you watch YouTube videos to work out? If yes, which YouTubers do you subscribe to/watch?
There is one I am a massive fan of! Its called 8 Minute Abs and I’ve been using this for almost 3 years! Basically, it is a mannequin doing an abs workout that you can follow as you do the exercises!
It’s tough but really does work your abs! Lots of abs exercises and they also do full workouts as well in a short time which is great for when you are in a rush and don’t have access to the gym!
What is your fitness mantra?
I say that if you want a good body, you can get one!
Too many people complain about being fat and not toned but at the end of the day, you are your own boss! If people are starving in other countries with no food and we have the choice of choosing what food we like then you can defo be healthy if you use your will power! It’s all about self discipline and if you really want a good body then you should be able to get one!
Tell me what are the gadgets you use while working out.
Just my iPod to listen to some hardcore music to make me pumped for when I want to train!
To be honest I used to be a health freak so I know what’s good and what’s bad and I know how to read the ingredients at the back of the food so I don’t use any apps! But I recommend Calorie Counter for people who are trying to cut fat out as keeping track of your calories can really help! 🙂
Any words of encouragement for fitness lovers/people who want to get healthy?
Like I said before! If you complain about not being fit and want to do something about it, stop moaning, start eating right and get yourself to the gym! It’s easier than it sounds!
