Apple launches ‘Red Friday’ sales in select Asian markets on January 10

Apple has just announced that it is having its annual Lunar New Year sale, a one day event for Asian countries.

The event is also known as “Red Friday”, for the significance of red in Chinese culture and its similarities to Black Friday in the U.S, which took place back in November.

During the event, which is happening on the 10th of January, three weeks before the Lunar New Year, Apple will be offering deals on Macs, iPads, iPods, and accessories like the Smart Cover. Products shipping are free on the event day itself too!

However, it is unclear whether Apple will offer traditional price cuts or instead give customers gift cards with purchase as it did in the United States during Black Friday. In previous years, Apple has offered modest cash discounts on products.

Two years back in 2012, when it was the year of Dragon in the Lunar Chinese calendar, the landing page of the website was this:

This year however, Apple’s Red Friday event page did not feature any design which resembled the Year of the Horse.

The event will take place in China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, and Thailand. Other Southeast Asia counties such as the Philippines, Vietnam and Indonesia seemed to have been left out from the sales.

There are some fine prints which come with the event though: Promotional pricing cannot be combined with any other offers. Product specifications are subject to change. Sale prices are limited to stock on hand while supplies last. Quantity of products purchasable by each customer may be limited.

So, are you getting any Apple products as a gift during this festive season?
