The e-Sports industry is growing rapidly in Malaysia, especially after e-Sports Association of Malaysia (eSM) was formed in earlier January this year. We also have our very own gaming team who just represented Malaysia this year August to participate in The International DOTA 2 (TI 5) Championship.

To promote the e-Sports culture in Malaysia, the Malaysia Cyber Games will be held in this coming December. Claiming to be the first and largest gaming festival in Malaysia, the event is fully endorsed and supported by the Ministry of Communication and Media.

The main purpose of the event is to discover local talents and develop young gamers who have been overlooked. At the same time they are recruiting players to present Malaysia in the DOTA 2 tournament by selecting the winners through the event. The winners will be announced as the “Taring Team”, in which ‘taring’ means fangs in English.

The Taring Team will be granted the opportunity to represent Malaysia as the national team for the e-Sports competition. Moreover, according to the official site, the winning team will take home RM125,000, check out the rest of the payouts and prize money here.

Before the main events, there will be two online qualifiers. The first one will be held from November 14 to 15 for the Sabah and Sarawak players. The top 4 teams will be provided flight and accommodation support throughout the entirety of The Malaysia Cyber Games. Whereas for the Peninsular Malaysia Players, the online qualifier will be held from November 28 to 29. 60 slots will be chosen to compete in the Malaysia Cyber Games.

The event will be host to a wide variety of events and activities that everyone would be welcomed to join. Hence if DOTA 2 is not your cup of tea, there are also other competitions such as FIFA 2016, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) and Street Fighter IV. Besides that, there will be food trucks available at the venue as well.

Malaysia Cyber Games will be held from December 11 to 13, in Malawati Stadium. If you are interested to check out this largest gaming festival in Malaysia, you can register either as a visitor or participant.
