Grab M’sia Smartly Leverages On Short-Distance Rides, Lowers Fare By Up To 60%

The ultimate challenge when hailing a ride is the price. Whilst the overall commuting experience is also of utmost importance, often times the factor which makes the overall difference would be the fare.

Grab has recently launched its RM1 Ride Promo campaign that received much success and was lauded by customers. As a result of this, they even extended their promo period by 4 days. Now, they’ll be taking it one step further it seems by revising their prices and marking them up to 60% off for short-distance rides.

They are building their niche around the format of shorter distances, and this is apt because not everyone travels to work with ride-sharing platforms. At times, some utilise it during the weekends, for instance, when they head to the mall or to get groceries, but do not want to go through the hassle and expenses of parking.

Jaygan Fu, the country manager of Grab Malaysia relayed that the move will be effective April 18, 2016 and this is a result of the positive feedback received through the RM1 Ride Promo.

Jaygan said, “The initiative to revise and reduce the fixed fares for GrabCar (Economy) for all nearby rides is part of Grab’s commitment to provide a safe, comfortable and reliable mode of transportation with certainty of a vehicle —all at an affordable price.”

“This means the public can travel the last mile from the LRT to the office, lunch out with colleagues at a nearby restaurant, or even go to the nearest mall for a whole lot less,” he added.

With this, Grab will be implementing 2 key changes and that is:

  1. Grab will be lowering their base fare to RM1.
  2. They will be removing any minimum charge, and rides below 5km won’t be subjected to the RM7 minimum fare.

A New Day, A New Fare
