Dwayne Johnson Jolted Me Awake For A Week—Without The Snooze Button

When I was a child, I used to love watching movies and TV shows in which ‘The Rock’ appeared. Played by Dwayne Johnson, The Rock was, to me, that strong character who never failed to make me laugh out loud. Then, I found out that he had a mobile app of his own: The Rock Clock. I decided to give it a try, smiling in reminiscence of my childhood.

The Rock Clock is an alarm clock application that comes with many fun perks that your regular smartphone alarm clock lacks. One thing that it doesn’t have, however, is a snooze button. The reason is fairly straightforward, Dwayne Johnson doesn’t like having one. Besides, it gives you no more reasons to procrastinate waking up in the morning!

This app definitely came in just in time, as in the past few weeks, it was very hard for me to get out of bed and I would often miss my alarm and eventually classes. It was a period of a increasing stressful pile of work. Some of my friends suggested that I change the soundtrack that I use for my morning alarm. I tried that, it worked for a few days, but not for long.

I therefore switched to The Rock Clock and tested it out for a week. I immediately fell in love with the dark modern design. The interface is also quite user friendly, as you open the app for the first time, it shows simple instructions on how to get started, with a little peek of the best of its additional features, namely A DAILY MESSAGE FROM THE ROCK!

Indeed, after setting up your morning alarm, you can wake up the next day and tap on the signature icon (a bull’s head with a ‘play’ sign next to it) of the app at the top of your screen.

What happens next is beyond anyone’s expectations of an alarm clock: it’s a Snapchat-like message from Dwayne himself, telling you to wake up and start the day! The message changes every day, and it is completely genuine. However, it might not always be in the form of a video. Sometimes I would receive motivational quotes embellished by pictures of him, which I still find very motivating!

Another perk is the fact that along with the alarm times that you create, there is an additional alarm that you can turn on. It’s the very first one in the list, called ‘Rock Time’, and it is basically Dwayne’s own morning alarm! If you are a big fan of The Rock or if you really want to push your limits as an aspiring morning person (because he is very matinal), you are welcome to give it a try.

In addition, I would like to point out that The Rock Clock is more than an alarm clock to me. It is more like a ‘project’ clock. In fact, as you start using the app, it will ask you to set a daily goal for yourself, and the alarms you create will relate to that goal.

Therefore, you can set alarms to motivate you to workout, for example, or to go to work on time. As for me, my current The Rock goal is to be a morning person. Once you complete a goal, you can then move on to another one. The project can either have an ‘end date’ or you can leave it indefinitely, until you choose to change it.

The last, and my favourite, special feature of this app is the original soundtracks that you can choose from for your alarm ringtone. There are 24 personalised tracks, all of them produced by Dwayne himself, and believe me, they will wake you up.

All of them are out of the ordinary. For instance, my personal favourite is ‘Battle Cat’, which in fact consists of a battle soundtrack that is constantly interrupted by a ‘meow’! Moreover, I can get a great morning shake with ‘Shredded’, a purely electrical guitar rock soundtrack.

The only downside of the app is that I am unable to plan my alarms ahead; I cannot select specific days of the week dedicated to specific alarm times. Thus, I have to manually update it every day. It is however not too much of a nuisance.

I would recommend this alarm app to anyone looking for a new and fresh way to jump out of bed and start the day. The Rock Clock is motivational and goal-oriented above all, striving for daily productivity. In my opinion, it is so far the best app to wake up to.
