In line with its Merdeka59 Promotion, Grab launches its GrabCar services in 2 tourist hotspots—Malacca and Kota Kinabalu. With Merdeka only mere days away, it’s the opportune timing for the ride-hailing service to launch their services in these tourist-heavy hotspots.

Speaking on this matter, Jaygan Fu, the Country Head of Grab Malaysia, said, “Grab is already present in these cities when we introduced our MyTeksi service, therefore GrabCar is meant to complement current taxi services by offering an alternative transportation option that is convenient and affordable in these highly populated tourist locations where transport, traffic and parking are often an issue.”

Malacca and Kota Kinabalu are known to attract many local and international tourists alike yearly. Hence, GrabCar’s decision to offer their services here is one which is able to cater to the masses.

The launch would also please those who choose GrabCar as a source of income considering how the government is in the midst of regulating ride hailing services.

Jaygan said, “Grab with its array of transport options has a social mission to not only provide safe, reliable and affordable transportation options, but is now fast becoming a source of income for many who prefer the comfort, convenience and flexibility of not being in a desk-bound job but yet still be able to earn a decent income.”

In line with Merdeka, GrabCar will also launch its Merdeka59 campaign from August 25-31, whereby GrabCar users can enjoy RM5 off for 9 GrabCar (Economy) rides when they pay via credit/debit card for their ride.

The offer is valid for riders in Klang Valley, Penang, Johor Bahru, Malacca and Kota Kinabalu.

In order to enjoy the Merdeka59 promo, GrabCar riders can:

1. Download the app from either the Google Playstore OR Apple Appstore,
2. Key-in the respective key-in and drop-off location,
3. Opt for debit/credit card payment, and
4. Key in the promo code: MERDEKA59.
