6 weeks have officially passed since the US Department of Justice filed their lawsuits surrounding the embezzlement of 1MDB funds. Since then, though not much else has been revealed in terms of the progress of the investigation, there was still a question that plagued the minds of most locals.
Who is ‘Malaysia Official 1’?
In their reports, the DOJ had mentioned a government servant’s involvement, dubbing that mysterious person as ‘Malaysia Official 1’. It evoked a lot of heated emotions from citizens, even prompting a group of students to hold a protest last Saturday demanding the arrest of the unnamed high-ranking government official.
The answer has now finally been revealed. Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan, the minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, clarified in a BBC interview held today that the identity of ‘Malaysia Official 1’ is none other than our Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
Safe to say, a large number of netizens were not surprised by the reveal, but that did little to control the fiery rage that was sparked from this exposure. Numerous comments flooded social media platforms, all expressing their reactions to this revelation in their own way.
Some comments that were left showed how the reveal was more expected than anything else.

While some brought up some concerns and speculations regarding the government’s next step.

Others expressed their own rage.

And then there were those who seemed to believe this reveal would not make any difference in the state of the government.

With the expressions of wonder at what the next step our country should take in terms of avoiding such issues from recurring again to pure rage at how lenient the laws are in allowing such crimes to go unpunished begs the bigger question. How has this all changed our future? What has this reveal brought in terms of bringing justice?
