Wages Are Expected To Rise 2.9%, And Here’s How Much You Should Be Paid In 2017
Maria Safi
Last year, we published an article revealing the salaries that Singaporean employees can expect when Kelly Services, global workforce solutions provider (aka HR firm), released their 2016 salary guide.
However, last November, The Straits Times revealed that “workers in Singapore can expect pay rises of about 2.9 per cent next year (2017), once inflation is taken into account”, according to a survey.
The figure is considerably less than the 4.3 per cent experienced in 2016, but Singapore’s expected 2.9 per cent is still higher than the Asia-Pacific average of 2.6 per cent.
While the 2017 salary guide has yet to be released, we decided to recalculate the figures from last year, and find out how much an employee should be paid with the expected increase of 2.9% this year.

HrmAsia mentioned that one of the reasons for the lower percentage is due to the “rising inflation between 2016 and 2017, from 0.3% deflation in 2016 to 1.1% inflation in 2017”.
Moreover, China’s slowing growth has lessened the demand and trade in Asian countries, affecting inflation rates in trade-reliant economies like Singapore.
2017 has just begun, and while the actual figures and percentages have yet to be revealed, this is probably what we can expect from our wages in 2017.
