With Magikarp Jump, Pokémon might just have another hit game on the cards.

If you are a fan of Pokémon, you will undoubtedly know of Magikarp – the unassuming fish of a Pokémon that when raised well, will evolve into the all-powerful Gyarados.

Well if you haven’t heard, Magikarp now has its own game.

Magikarp Jump Is Here!

Finally coming out from beta, The Pokémon Company has let loose Magikarp Jump into the Play Store and App Store.

In a throwback to the classic Pokémon games, you start off by playing a character from Hoppy Town, a Magikarp-loving place, where Mayor Karp will guide you through the introductions.

Your mission? To raise the best Magikarp the world has ever seen and make your hometown proud.

The first thing you have to do in the game is to, well… fish for a Magikarp.

The initial stages of the game will see you being guided along by Mayor Karp. He will give you an Old Rod after which you will use it to catch your very first Magikarp.

Following that you will be taught the basics of raising your Magikarp, from eating berries to undergoing training with your newly acquired training points in the training arena.

Finally, the tutorials are rounded off with a simple battle, where (as you’ve guessed it) the fight will be settled by whoever’s Magikarp can jump the highest.

From then on, it’s all on you to be the Magikarp Master as you go on a journey to win the different leagues that lie before you.

Stupidly Simple Mechanics (Or Is It?)

As with all popular mobile games, the deceptively simple player mechanics have led many to dive deeper in search of the secret recipe to raise the perfect Magikarp.

Just hit up popular games sites like IGN and you will see some protips for players jumping on the bandwagon.

That’s also where you can see that even though Magikarp is the star of the game, you can seek help from other Pokémon during your journey.

Aside from just eating berries and battling, effective usage of your trainer points and keeping an eye out for special events can also tilt the balance as to how well your Magikarp grows.

Then there’s the fact that your Magikarp will either ‘retire’ or be caught by some bird Pokémon, forcing you to basically reset the game and go through the process all over again.

In all, if you’re looking for a game that doesn’t require much brain power, why no try Magikarp Jump out?
