It has truly been an exciting few months, with the release of flagship smartphones like the Google Pixel 3, Huawei Mate 20 and Apple iPhone XS (among many others).
However, if you’re still not convinced by any of them, Razer has just launched an option you can consider.
Razer Phone 2 Launches
After a whirlwind of rumours, Razer is back with its latest flagship phone, very simply named ‘Razer Phone 2’.
This comes after the release of the Razer Phone last year, which was the company’s first foray into the smartphone market.
“The first Razer Phone disrupted the smartphone industry and created a new category,” said Min-Liang Tan, co-founder and CEO of Razer Inc.
With the Razer Phone 2, we have pulled out the stops to define flagship and gaming on our terms.
First of all, the Razer Phone 2 promises to offer up to 30% more performance than its predecessor with a Qualcomm 845 Snapdragon chipset and Qualcomm Adreno 630 graphics processing unit.
This is great news for mobile gamers who want their device to power through some of the most demanding apps out there.
To ensure that the phone doesn’t overheat during intense gaming sessions, the Razer Phone 2 also comes with a vapour chamber cooling system.
With its glass back, wireless charging is also available on the Razer Phone 2.
For those who still prefer plugging their phone to a power source, the Qualcomm QuickCharge 4+ brings a flat battery from zero to 50% in just 30 minutes.
The Razer Phone 2 has also been tested for IP67 resistance to dust and water.
Mobile Gamers, This Is For You
With a motto stating that their brand is ‘For Gamers, By Gamers’, it’s no surprise that the Razer Phone 2 comes with gaming-focused features.
The Razer Phone 2 comes with a 5.7-inch UltraMotion™ IGZO display that offers both 120 Hz screen refresh and 120 Hz touch sampling.
The new display is also 50% brighter than its predecessor.
Razer has also chose to deviate from the ‘bezel-less’ aesthetic that many of its competitors have adopted for their flagship options.
This is because its relatively thicker top and bottom bezels are home to the Razer Phone 2’s dual front-spacing speakers, which come with upgraded hardware and are Dolby Atmos-enabled.
For mobile gamers who are always on the go, the Razer Phone 2 also packs a 4,000 mAH capacity battery, putting it at the top of the class in terms of battery capacity.
As a simpler gauge, the Razer Phone 2 is optimised to last 10 hours at 120Hz.
And for those who prefer to use their device to binge-watch TV shows, the Razer Phone 2 is also the only phone officially certified by Netflix for HDR video and Dolby Surround 5.1 audio.
Dual-Cameras, Video Streaming At Full HD
In terms of its photography capabilities, the Razer Phone 2 comes with a dual-camera setup with a 12 MP wide-angle lens with optical image stabilisation (OIS) and a 12 MP telephoto lens with 2x zoom.
Its front camera is 8 MP and supports video streaming at full HD resolution, something that livestreamers in particular would find handy.
The camera doesn’t boast as many modes as its Android counterparts (it has Photo, Video, Pano, Portrait, and Beauty mode), but Razer stated that it is committed to “constantly provide software updates to take advantage of the latest improvements in the imaging space”.
Chroma Fans, You’re In For A Treat
Fans of Razer Chroma will also be thrilled to know that they can now enjoy the mesmerising RGB lighting even when they’re away from their Razer keyboards!
For the Razer Phone 2, the triple-headed snake logo on the back of the phone will glow in 16.8 million colours to provide notifications from various apps.
Razer Chroma will allow Razer Phone 2 users to customise lighting effects such as Static, Spectrum Cycling and Breathing.
How Much Will It Set You Back?
The Razer Phone 2 retails at S$1,249 and will be released on 3 Nov 2018.
Singtel will be the exclusive carrier partner for the Razer Phone 2 in Singapore, and customers will be among the first in Asia to get their hands on them.
Singtel is also offering a promotional bundle which includes 6 months of free DATA X 4 add-on (which quadruples the monthly data allowance) and free Hearthstone card packs.
At Singtel’s exclusive Razer Phone 2 launch event this Saturday, customers will get a first look at the Razer Phone 2 and get to take part in Arena of
Valor (AOV) and Contra mobile gaming competitions.
The first 100 customers who purchase the phone will also receive a limited edition #TEAMRAZER Gaming Pack.
