SG Budget 2019: Student Interns, S’porean Workers Posted Overseas To Get Enhanced Funding Support

Singapore Finance Minister Heng Swee Keat emphasised in this year’s Budget that it is important for us to look beyond our shores.

Said Mr Heng:

We should position Singapore as ‘Asia 101’ for global MNCs looking to expand into Asia’s growing markets and as ‘Global 101’ for Asian companies ready to go global.

He announced that current local and overseas internship programmes will be combined into a single Global Ready Talent Programme for students in institutes of higher learning.

This programme will also have enhanced funding support for students interning overseas with Singapore firms.

High-growth Singapore firms will also receive support to send Singaporeans with up to three years of working experience, for postings in key markets such as South-east Asia, China, and India.

Centres of Innovation for Aquaculture and Energy sectors will also be set up.
