Last month, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) announced a new SimplyGo initiative that aims to make the transport experience for commuters “hassle-free and convenient”.
With SimplyGo, commuters can pay for public transport using their Mastercard or smartphone, which must already have Apple Pay, Fitbit Pay, Google Pay or Samsung Pay available.
This means that commuters no longer need to carry a separate travel card or make any top-ups before traveling.
Today, Fitbit announced that commuters in Singapore can now use their Fitbit devices to pay for bus and train rides here.
This service is currently open to OCBC and United Overseas Bank (UOB) Mastercard holders.
They must first link their credit or debit cards to their Fitbit Pay Wallet, after which they can simply tap their wrists on the fare readers for payment.
Fitbit’s e-wallet is currently available on all Ionic, Versa and Charge 3 models.
“Singaporeans have always embraced new technologies that make life simpler and more convenient, and we are glad to be a part of the SimplyGo initiative that takes us one step closer towards a cashless society,” said Louis Lye, Fitbit’s regional director for Southeast Asia, Hong Kong and Taiwan.
