This June, Grab will be hosting its first-ever ‘AI for S.E.A’ challenge to scout for new tech talents.

According to Grab, this challenge aims to promote the use of data and artificial intelligence (AI) to solve some of Southeast Asia’s biggest urban challenges.

The challenge will be centred around three key themes:

The top 50 participants will be offered a full-time position at Grab, while the top five individuals will be awarded cash prizes.

The grand winner of the challenge will walk away with S$10,000.

Keen participants can learn more about the themes and download corresponding datasets here.

Grab will also be holding ‘AI for S.E.A’ roadshows in Singapore, Malaysia, Jakarta, Manila and Ho Chi Minh so participants can know more about the challenge, as well as get acquainted with Grab’s AI team and efforts.

The deadline for submission is on 17 June, and shortlisted candidates will be notified on the week of 24 June.

Finalists will get to present their solutions during the Demo Day, which will take place on the week of 2 July. Winners will also be announced on the same day.

“At Grab, we believe in building tech for good. We have one of the largest datasets in the region, which combined with AI, can help make cities smarter, better and safer,” said Wui Ngiap Foo, Grab’s head of AI initiatives.

“We believe AI can unlock new ways to change the lives of millions of Southeast Asians for the better. That’s why we are investing heavily into our data science, machine learning and AI capabilities.”

Wui adds that Grab has one of the largest AI and data science teams in the region, with 250 employees and counting.
