Swiss technology firm, SIRIN LABS, unveiled today (28 August) the world’s first ultra-secure crypto smartphone, FINNEY, in Singapore.
The phone, which was revealed exclusively at COURTS Funan, costs S$1,899 – $10 more than a 256GB iPhone XS.
According to the company, Singapore is first in Southeast Asia to launch the phone but second in Asia behind Japan.
This crypto smartphone is also available in the UK and all of Europe.
FINNEY operates using the company’s own operating system (OS), the SIRIN OS, which is a Google-certified modification of Android.
SIRIN OS is a machine-learning-based Intrusion Prevention System (IPS) that protects FINNEY from online and offline cyber threats.
Designed to overcome security challenges that comes with the use and storage of cryptocurrency on mobile devices, SIRIN OS enables the phone to detect and protect itself from network attacks, host-based attacks, and unsecure device definitions.
FINNEY comes pre-loaded with secure email, messaging and call apps including ProtonMail and TrustCall, which provides end-to-end encryption for secure communication.
The OS also powers FINNEY’s embedded cold storage crypto wallet, cybersecurity suite, Token Conversion Service (TCS), and dCENTER app store.
FINNEY’s crypto wallet is a separate hardware from the phone that can be accessed by sliding the back, top part of the phone upwards.
As it’s a physical crypto wallet, it is more secure compared to online crypto wallets where there is a higher chance of being compromised since they are constantly connected to the Internet.
The FINNEY wallet is only connected to the Internet when the user wants to send or receive cryptocurrencies.
Another feature to note is the token conversion service, which is a concierge-like service unique to the phone.
This TCS lets users make crypto transactions for supported coins and tokens on the firm’s own cryptocurrency platform, without the hassle of exchanges.
SIRIN LABS promises users competitive exchange rates and a simple and seamless crypto payment experience.
The FINNEY phone also comes with the SIRIN OS dCENTER, a marketplace for decentralised applications (DApps).
dCENTER’s Learn & Earn feature is the first crypto and blockchain education platform that offers incentives for users to engage with blockchain apps.
For instance, when users interact with blockchain games like CryptoKitties, they can earn incentives such as Bitcoin and Ethereum.
The dCenter, based on Web 3.0 protocol, offers: app and in-app purchasing, Air drop mechanism, DApp browser, and more.
Moshe Hogeg, Co-Founder and Co-CEO of SIRIN LABS said, “With FINNEY, we address the two greatest barriers to adoption – lack of security and poor user experience – by delivering a product that gives consumers the confidence that their data is safe in the digital world, and a user-friendly interface that is fitting for both new and existing crypto enthusiasts.”
Now, FINNEY users in Singapore can use the phone to pay for their meals using cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Creatanium at KOPItech in Funan.
“For the first time, Singaporeans can purchase their meals using cryptocurrencies via the self-service kiosks, which will help reduce snaking queues during peak hours and help stallholders improve productivity,” said Vincent Cheong, Corporate Communications Manager of Kopitiam.
SIRIN LABS’ flagship phone boasts 3D Gorilla Glass on the back of the device and their signature Shield Element surrounding the camera, sensors, and fingerprint scanner.
The FINNEY is fitted with a Qualcomm Snapdragon™ 845, 128GB storage memory, 6GB RAM, SD Memory card slot, a 12MP back camera, and an 8MP front camera.
FINNEY will be available at COURTS Funan and COURTS online from October 2019.
Pre-order FINNEY at all COURTS stores islandwide and online here, and get $60 COURTS vouchers with every purchase until 30 September 2019.
