This year, DBS Bank issued money packets during festive seasons like Chinese New Year and Hari Raya.

The upcoming Deepavali is no exception — those celebrating it will have a digital alternative to the traditional money packets.

These digital packets will feature a unique QR code, which can be scanned to ‘load’ a cash value of up to S$999 using DBS PayLah!.

According to DBS, the top-ups onto the digital packets can only be done from 1 October 2019 to 14 November 2019.

For the recipients of these digital packets, they can scan the same QR code with their own DBS PayLah! app to receive the loaded amount.

They must do so before 15 November 2019, otherwise the funds will be credited back to the sender.

Those who successfully send or redeem a DBS QR Gift will be eligible to participate in the DBS QR Gift contest.

From 1 October to 2 November 2019, the person with the highest cumulative number of qualifying DBS QR Gift transactions stand to win the grand prize of S$8,888.

Meanwhile, three people who make a qualifying transaction on each day between 27 October and 2 November 2019 stand to win a daily prize of S$188 each.

Only customers who make cash withdrawals at any DBS or POSB branches in Singapore can get their hands on these digital packets. Each transaction will entitle you to get two sets, subject to availability.

“In the spirit of celebrating Deepavali, we are distributing a festive edition of DBS QR Gift so customers can enjoy the benefits of going digital, even as they retain the familiar tradition of gifting and exchanging Deepavali packets among families and loved ones,” said Jeremy Soo, Managing Director and Head of Consumer Banking Group (Singapore) of DBS Bank.
