Earlier in October, the Singapore Esports Association (SGEA) revealed that 20 esports athletes will be representing Singapore at SEA Games 2019.

Athletes will be competing in esports games like Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, Dota 2, Hearthstone, and StarCraft II.

The SEA Games 2019 is currently in full swing, and will end 11 Dec.

Today, Singtel and the SGEA announced that they have launched the ‘PVP Esports Award’, which will be presented to up to two Team Singapore athletes competing at the Games.

Singtel is a sponsor of Singapore’s SEA Games esports team.

Said Mr Arthur Lang, CEO of Singtel’s International Group: “This award recognises their skills and contributions, and represents our commitment to support and celebrate their efforts. We believe they will be excellent ambassadors for the sport, and an inspiration to others.”

“With the growing popularity of competitive gaming in the region, we are passionate about developing the gaming ecosystem for professionals and amateurs alike through our PVP Esports platform.”

Added Mr Ng Chong Geng, President, Singapore Esports Association: “We believe that Singtel’s infrastructure and our industry veterans will enable us to further develop the esports scene in Singapore.”

The ‘PVP Esports Award’, each worth S$10,000, will comprise of cash as well as funds to support the athletes’ professional development and learning, and athletic training.

The athletes will be selected based on the following criteria: excellence in performance, commitment to the craft, and sportsmanship.

The awardees will be chosen by Singtel and SGEA representatives after the closing of the SEA Games.
