S’pore Telco TPG To Suspend M’sia And Indo Roaming, Will Offer Free PH Roaming From 31 Jan

Singapore’s fourth telco TPG Telecom recently announced that it has extended its free mobile trial for 300,000 subscribers as it works on ironing out coverage and performance issues on its 4G network.

In mid-July last year, TPG offered 200,000 users free unlimited data roaming in Malaysia and Indonesia.

In addition, it also allows TPG users to to make unlimited calls to Singapore mobile numbers while roaming, capped at 20 minutes talktime. All incoming calls and SMSes will also be free.

“These two countries are two of the top travel destinations for Singaporeans due to their proximity, so many of our customers (can) save and break away from existing high roaming charges,” said TPG executive chairman David Teoh.

However, TPG sent out an email to its subscribers yesterday (Jan 14) regarding an update to its roaming services.

From 16 January 2020, TPG will “temporarily” suspend Malaysia and Indonesia roaming.

It did not elaborate in detail what triggered this move, except that it’s “based on subscriber feedback”.

In addition to the news of this temporary suspension, TPG said that it will be offering free trial roaming to the Philippines from 31 January 2020.
