Grab To Provide Up To S$1,000 Insurance Payout For Drivers Infected With COVID-19

Grab provides up to S$1,000 insurance payout for drivers infected with COVID-19

Grab announced today (19 February) that it will be providing free insurance coverage together with Chubb, for drivers and delivery partners who get infected during the COVID-19 outbreak.

It will be delivered through the ride-hailing firm’s insurance arm GrabInsure, under its existing Prolonged Medical Leave policy.

All Grab drivers and delivery partners are automatically covered starting today.

They will be able to claim a payout of S$500 if they get diagnosed with COVID-19 between today and 19 March 2020.

Drivers who have volunteered to drive for GrabCare, Grab’s dedicated round-the-clock on-demand transport service for healthcare workers, will be entitled to a S$1,000 payout if diagnosed.

The GrabCare service was first piloted on 14 February to support healthcare professionals who have been working hard at the frontlines of the coronavirus outbreak.

Separately, Grab and other taxi and ride-hailing firms in Singapore are also providing financial support for drivers to help them tide through a drop in business during this period.

In collaboration with the Government, these companies will be offering S$20 a day for three months to qualifying drivers.

Grab and Gojek drivers must have completed at least 200 jobs per month between October and December 2019 to qualify for the relief.

“It is Grab’s priority to always look out for our driver- and delivery-partners, even more so during this period of uncertainty,” said Grab’s Head of Insurance, Tom Duncan.

“This enables our driver- and delivery-partners to access the additional insurance coverage immediately, without further actions required. We hope this will give them a better peace of mind as they continue to provide their services.”
