Sunway Now Lets You Customise And Buy A Condo Unit Online—And It’s The First In M’sia

Sunway Property’s launch of the “First Property Customisation & Online Purchase System” for its integrated Sunway Grid project in Sunway Iskandar, Johor, is the first in Malaysia. This has garnered it recognition by the Malaysia Book of Records.

Sunway Grid Residence is a youth-centric property and enables potential residents to almost completely customise their home.

This is done through the Sunway Grid website where users can create their dream condo by choosing whether they’d prefer a standard unit, loft or deluxe loft, what floor it’ll be on, whether they want a river or harbour view, the layout and number of rooms, and the furnishings.

In total, there are 501 units with a starting price of RM421,500. The size of a standard unit measures 3.5m in height and 584 square feet, while a loft unit is 4.5m tall and 772 square feet in area.

According to Sunway Property, all of these choices can be made with a few clicks and you can then confirm your reservation by paying RM500 via iPay88.

If you’re interested in getting a virtual 3D tour of a standard unit, you can click here.

Aside from its customisable layout, the two other key features of Sunway Grid Residence are its direct bus to Singapore’s Jurong East Interchange and a front main road leading to a future theme park.

Similar to the convenient layout of Sunway City, Sunway Property has planned for Sunway Grid Residence to be close to a Sunway retail mall, a Sunway international school, along with a bunch of other amenities like office spaces, shoplots, and a theme park.

Just within a short distance, residents will also be able to access Puteri Harbour, Legoland, and Educity.

Making Waves In The Proptech Industry

Christopher Wong, CEO of the Malaysia Book of Records said in a statement, “The Malaysia Book of Records looks to acknowledge originality and creativity and records that can inspire others eager to surpass an achievement.”

“We believe that Sunway GRID has achieved this with its first e-commerce website that allows customisation online in Malaysia.”

In conjunction with this achievement, Sunway Property is offering an RM10,000 rebate for online purchases with its Crazy GRID Deals which will take place from March 5 to April 30, 2020.

“For the buyers, this project intends to deliver convenience and service quality, and for us, it would ultimately deliver improvement in competitiveness for the long-haul since any business’ future now depends on technology,” said Gerard Soosay, CEO of Sunway Iskandar.

This is the first time that the developer has designed a fully youth-centric development, and its residential component, which was the first to be launched, has already achieved a 70% take-up rate.

Sunway GRID’s location puts it in an economic growth corridor aimed at attracting a targeted investment sum of RM383 billion by 2025, according to a Sunway representative.

They also told Vulcan Post, “The Sunway GRID development is located close to the 300-acre Educity which is expected to take in as many as 20,000 students from Malaysia and from around the region.”

“There needs to be an ecosystem that includes the right infrastructure for a young talent pool who will support this growth.”

Sunway GRID is Sunway Iskandar’s pilot project, and the team hopes to be able to replicate this with other projects soon.

Curious about how it worked, I checked it out myself. Currently, it would seem that the options are extremely limited, perhaps because of the 70% take-up rate.

After I registered, I was only able to choose a standard unit on either Level 11 or Level 12, so I went with Level 12.

The first thing I saw upon signing in

From there, I could pick my view, so I chose to have my unit overlook Puteri Harbour. That unit (Unit 13) was close to the lift lobby as well, so it was one of the more expensive units at a base price of RM571,000.

This is what I would be able to see from my chosen unit

Then I could pick how many rooms I wanted. It gave me only the options of a studio or up to 2 rooms, not 3. 1 room costs RM3,500, and 2 rooms cost RM5,500. The studio has no additional cost, so I went with that.

Next came the furnishings. You can get 2 air conditioners installed for RM2,700, electrical fittings (lights and ceiling fans) for RM,3000, bay window storage (extra storage area) for RM3,200, and window furnishings (curtains or blinds) for RM3,500.

I went with all except the window furnishings. Once I was done, my total was RM579,900.

Rather pricey, considering that a brief search on iProperty for a similarly priced condo unit in Iskandar Puteri pulled up one by Meridin Suites Residences that was about RM450,000.

At about 900+ square feet in size with 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, and partial furnishing, its size alone is almost double the size of a unit in Sunway Grid Residence.

However, it is important to note that Meridin Suites Residences is at least a few years old and does not offer customisable units, so for the price you’re paying for a Sunway Grid Residences unit, you are getting a newer building, along with the ability to customise it quite extensively.

As someone who has stayed in Sunway City for a few years before, I can vouch for the convenience that I enjoyed there.

And based on the current development plan, it would seem that Sunway Property is aiming to bring that same convenience to its Sunway Iskandar residents too, so I see that as a plus.
