S’pore’s 4th Telco TPG Telecom Launches New SIM-Only Plan: 50GB Data For $10

In 2016, Australian firm TPG Telecom won the bid to become Singapore’s fourth telco.

Then in December last year, TPG announced that it will offer free mobile service for a year to the first 20,000 users who register their interest.

Due to such positive interest, TPG has relaunched the free one-year trial in March 2019 and extended it in December that year for 300,000 subscribers.

TPG had also pushed back its 4G commercial launch to 2020 because it wanted to smooth out all coverage and performance issues on its 4G network first.

Today (March 31), TPG Telecom finally unveiled its first SIM-only and TPG prepaid plan in Singapore.

With this commercial launch, new subscriptions to the free service trial will end immediately but users who are still in the free trial period can continue to enjoy the free service until their plans expire.

50GB For Only $10

The telco describes this new offering as a “best-value no-contract plan”.

Priced at only S$10, it comes with 50GB data, 300 local call minutes, 30 local SMS, as well as free caller ID, incoming calls and SMS.

On top of that, it also offers free 1GB roaming to “selected countries” from May 2020.

However, do note that the TPG network supports specific VoLTE devices for high-definition mobile voice calling. Customers who are using non-VoLTE compatible handsets would need to download the TPG 4G Voice App to make and receive calls.

Additional charges are also priced at competitive rates:

TPG assures that customers need not worry about bill shocks as the extra charges are deducted from a user-defined limit.

In terms of coverage, customers can only use the service when they use a 4G-ready (supporting LTE 2300MHz/900MHz) handset or device.

TPG also said that it has limited coverage in tunnels but improvements are currently ongoing.

For SIM-only customers, the subscription is valid for 30 days and will be automatically renewed.

With this new plan, TPG is hoping for “minimal attrition” when people switch over to this plan, as it lowers the barrier of entry by setting a new entry point for users.

“Based on the valuable feedback from our large service trial subscriber base, consumers here want to have easy-to-understand yet attractive mobile plans with no hidden charges,” said Richard Tan, acting CEO of TPG Singapore.

“The TPG proposition is simple, just $10 per month for 50GB of data and 300 call minutes with no bill shock and no lock-in contract. We look forward to giving our customers what they want – transparency and affordability.”

Customers can register for the TPG 50GB SIM Only plan on TPG’s website. Upon successful registration, they can immediately visit any of TPG’s designated collection centres to collect their SIM card.

A new TPG Prepaid Plan offering the same simplicity will be launched at a later date.
