You Can Pre-Order The iPhone 12 And 12 Pro From 16 October – Prices Start From S$1,299

In a rather expected move, Apple unveiled their new lineup of iPhones during their “Hi Speed” event last night — the iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Mini, iPhone 12 Pro, and iPhone 12 Pro Max.

The new phones offer some cool cool features like a iPhone 5-esque redesign and (the return of) MagSafe wireless charging, but the more pressing question on our minds right now is: how much do they cost in Singapore, and when can we get it?

Fortunately, Singapore is once again part of Apple’s initial rollout, with pre-orders for the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro starting this Friday (16 October) at 8pm, and availability beginning next Friday (23 October) at the Apple Store, Apple authorised resellers and telcos.

You would have to wait slightly longer if you want the iPhone 12 Mini or iPhone 12 Pro Max, though, as pre-orders for those start on 6 November at 8pm, and availability beginning 13 November.

In terms of the pricing, the iPhone 12 Mini, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max will start from S$1,149 (64GB), S$1,299 (64GB), S$1,649 (128GB) and S$1,749 (128GB) respectively.

With the iPhone SE (S$649), iPhone XR (S$799) and iPhone 11 (S$979) remaining in the lineup, it looks like Apple is really covering all bases when it comes to price points.

So how do we feel about the iPhone 12? Kind of split, to be honest.

5G was a big — if not the biggest — talking point during last night’s event, but that conversation is a little less relevant in a local context with 5G not really being a thing in Singapore yet.

5G is more of a “when” and less of an “if” though, so at the very least the phones are equipped for the inevitable future.

That aside however, the iPhone 12 is still a solid entry from Apple: the redesign — albeit a tad derivative — is a breath of fresh air from the same one we’ve had since 2017, and the introduction of a smaller model will be great for those who feel like smartphones have gotten too big in recent years.

Throw in expected performance upgrades like the new 5nm A14 Bionic Processor and a Super Retina XDR display across all models, and we’d say that now would be a good time for an upgrade.
