Teo Heng KTV was founded back in 1989 by Jackson Teo, and is well-known by Singaporeans as a family-friendly karaoke studio.
The homegrown brand has gone through an especially tough time during the Covid-19 pandemic as it has had to remain closed since March last year.
During their period of business closure, Teo Heng KTV’s 120-strong employees were forcibly put out of work.
Teo Heng was widely praised for paying its workers full salary for the first six months of closure. However, they had to reduce their workers’ salary by 50 per cent from last October onwards due to the heavy losses incurred.
Jackson previously shared with Lianhe Wanbao that it expected to incur losses of $500,000 for a month-long closure. To date, Teo Heng KTV has been closed for a year.
Now, with more Singaporeans getting vaccinated and the Covid-19 situation becoming more stable, some Teo Heng outlets will reopen for business.
A Place To “Work, Dine And Chill”
From this Friday (March 19), some Teo Heng outlets will be opening up their rooms to customers to rent as a space to “work, dine and chill.”
According to Mothership, its Causeway Point and Bedok Point outlets will be reopening on March 19, while its JCube outlet will reopen at a later time.
This mirrors the strategy that other entertainment venues have followed to increase their revenue streams. For example, cinema chain Golden Village opened its Gold Class lounge for customers to “work-from-lounge”.
Besides working and relaxing, the room can also be used for birthday celebrations, which Teo Heng will decorate for free.
Teo Heng will provide free amenities such as HDMI cables, and a ring light with a stand. Customers can also bring their own food and beverages, or purchase canned drinks for S$1.
The KTV brand also said that it is exploring other opportunities for the rooms, such as using them as a venue for e-sports players to train.
The rooms will be open from 10am to 1am, and rental rates differ according to the timing and room sizes:
- Small room: S$4 (happy hour), S$6 (peak hour)
- Medium room: S$6 (happy hour), S$8 (peak hour)
- Large room: S$8 (happy hour), S$10 (peak hour)
- Party room: S$15 (happy hours), S$18 (peak hours)
Peak hours start from 7pm to 1am, and customers can enjoy a free hour with rental of at least five hours.

Keeping Hope Alive
Previously, Jackson told Shin Min Daily News that he planned to raise S$1 million and put up a last fight to overcome this crisis.
The plan never bore fruition as karaoke outlets still remain largely closed.
Two months ago, it also announced that it would only hold on to two of their outlets at Ci Yuan Community Club and Tampines West Community Club.
Hopefully with the pivot and the reopening of two outlets (for now), it can perhaps make a comeback.
