Startup Weekend is back in Singapore, a no talk and all action event

Wondering what to do during your weekend? How does meeting and connecting with motivated individuals to launch the next big company sound?

Scheduled to be taking place on the first weekend of May, Startup Weekend Singapore is a high energy 54 hour event during which groups of developers, business managers, startup enthusiasts, marketing gurus, graphic artists and more pitch ideas for new startup companies.

Participants share and pitch their ideas with one another during the start of the event, and then form teams around those ideas. They then work together to develop a working prototype, demo, or presentation by Sunday evening.

Throughout the weekend, other than connecting with fellow entrepreneurs, there are opportunities to meet with mentors who will be joining the event as well. Mentors include Chai Jia Jih, the managing director of AirBnB in Southeast Asia, Christel Quek, Twitter’s Content lead in Asia, Jeffrey Paine, founding partner of Golden Gate Ventures, Adrian Tan, founder of SGAG, Christopher Chong, cofounder of Beeconomics (Groupon Singapore) and many more.

Pankaj Jain, venture partner of global incubator and venture fund 500 Startups, will also be flying down from New York specially to Singapore to coorganize the event.

Two years back during the same event, the winning team of Startup Weekend Singapore 2012, SnapSell continued to pursue their idea. SnapSell eventually rebranded to Carousell and rose in popularity among users who use it to easily buy and sell their items on the mobile app. What started off as a project as Startup Weekend Singapore 2012 turned into a multi million dollar company today, and the Startup Weekend Singapore team hopes that the same could happen this time round as well.
