New mobile app BeeTalk is aggressively trying to rival Paktor, WeChat, LINE and SnapChat.

Perhaps you have seen or heard from somewhere: BeeTalk. A mashup between popular Chinese chatting app WeChat, dating app Paktor as well as SnapChat, BeeTalk is yet another dating app which has been really active in its marketing campaigns recently in Singapore and Southeast Asia.

Let’s take a closer look at some of its features. Similar to other dating apps such as Paktor, you can browse profiles of other users, and flip to right to “Like” and left to “Dislike.” If both of you like each other, you are then matched and can chat each other up. Similar to the “Shake” feature of WeChat, you can find people who are shaking their phones together with you and instantly chat them up.

On top of that, BeeTalk also takes a page from popular chatting app SnapChat, allowing you to send messages to one another that magically disappear afterwards. Other interesting features that make BeeTalk grow in popularity include free calls and messages, stickers, as well as Doodle where you can draw to your friends.

To us, BeeTalk looks like a combination of all the popular app in the market out there: WeChat meets LINE meets Paktor meets SnapChat. The app seems to be getting a lot of traction, and relies a lot on local Youtube celebrity to create a buzz for the app. A BeeTalk mini-movie in Thai received over 360,000 views on YouTube, while a mini movie in Singapore which we wrote about, also received over 150,000 views in days after it was released.

On top of partnering with YouTube local celebrity, it is also aggressively advertising on various social networks, trying to attract more users to hop onboard.

BeeTalk, registered as a company in Singapore but is based in the Thai capital, enters a very crowded mobile app marketplace. It is trying to compete against several other established apps such as LINE, Paktor, and WeChat in the region, and all of them are also vying for the attention of mobile users.

Which leaves us wondering, what is the actual purpose of BeeTalk and why is it built? Is it trying to solve a real problem? Or is it just merely trying to combine every apps into one central location? Is it just reinventing the wheels?

From its Google Play page, BeeTalk currently has between 1,000,000 – 5,000,000 downloads on the Android platform. This is excluding iOS users.
