Growing up, I remember tagging along with my grandmother on her trips to Watsons stores. I believe it is a huge reason why I still enjoy browsing pharmacies today.

However, despite my familiarity with Watsons, I’ve never really known where it originated from. With some research, here’s what I found.

A.S. Watson Group was established in Hong Kong back in 1841, and today is the world’s largest international health and beauty retailer. It operates 15,800 stores under 15 retail brands in 26 markets, hiring over 140,000 employees worldwide.

Each year, 5.2 billion shoppers visit its brightly-lit physical stores and online stores packed with products. Watsons first came to Malaysia in 1994, opening its first store in Holiday Plaza, Johor (and it’s still open today).

In the span of 27 years, the leading health and beauty store in Malaysia is now opening its 600th outlet at Pavilion Bukit Jalil (PBJ).

To celebrate this milestone, the brand wants to give back to its biggest supporters (yes, me included) by hosting events that are available exclusively on December 9, 2021. But first, here’s what shoppers can expect to experience at the new store.

Watsons services, levelled up

This newest store has been designed with the modern consumer in mind, so Watsons has introduced an improved customer experience with the combination of online + offline services. When you visit the store, here’s what awaits you:

1. Make-up station services

Previously, all customers had in the beauty products area were testers and sales assistants who would explain what a product could do. Now, customers can experience a free express makeover service by professional makeup artists at Watsons PBJ.

But if you don’t wish to have any products physically applied to your face, you can opt for the…

2. #ColourMe tablet

The device is powered by augmented reality (AR) technology and allows customers to virtually try on different makeup brands.

3. Self-checkout counters

Watsons PBJ is also rolling out self-checkout machines that come with a user-friendly interface. They’ll enable customers to save time on queueing and processing their own purchases.

4. Click and Collect express service

If you’re already dropping by PBJ and wish to get some products from Watsons but want to cut the queue, this is for you. With this service, you can shop online and collect your purchases 4 hours later at Watsons, allowing you to plan your outing accordingly.

5. Natural by Watsons refill station

Watsons at PBJ will also have the second Natural by Watsons refill station to help reduce the overall impact of plastic use. It carries 6 eco-refills for the best-selling Natural by Watsons products which are: Aloe Vera Shampoo and Bath, Argan Shampoo, Olive Shampoo and Bath, and Coffee Shampoo.

Benefits for shoppers & members

1. Points & rebates for members nationwide

To reward loyal members, Watsons is running their ongoing campaign to provide a 10x points multiplier for RM60 spent in-store (nationwide) and online, so you’ll be getting 600 points. (Normally, RM1 = 1 point.)

That’s not all. If you happen to be the lucky 600th, 6,000th, or 60,000th member, you’ll win the prize of 1 year of free shopping across Watsons Malaysia stores.

Shoppers can also get an instant rebate of up to RM186 for in-store and online purchases when using Watsons’ health and beauty vouchers.

2. Goodie bags & vouchers galore

Watsons PBJ is giving away RM20 vouchers to the first 100 customers who visit it on December 9. Meanwhile, the first 200 members who spend RM100 or above in-store will receive a Super Goodies Bag worth RM100.

From 5PM onwards, the first 200 members are also eligible to get an RM20 voucher and goodie bag worth RM50, no purchases required.

If you can’t make it on December 9, worry not, as from December 9–15, you will still be able to get a free RM5 voucher with a minimum purchase of RM30.

3. A year-end haul to end 2021

In the spirit of gifting, Watsons Malaysia is hosting a year-end sale with multiple deals such as:

  • Buy 2 Save More, where you can purchase 2 or more of a product in-store or online and save money while doing it.
