Gojek extends ‘Driver Fee’ until Dec 31 – S’pore users must pay up to $0.80 extra on all rides

Gojek announced today (July 25) that it will extend its temporary “Driver Fee” until 31 December 2022 in an effort to support their driver-partners.

The temporary “Driver Fee” was first introduced earlier in March this year to help driver-partners cope with the rising fuel prices in Singapore. Gojek’s aim was to provide continued support to these driver-partners by ensuring they gain stable earnings in the midst of fluctuating fuel costs.

Aiding driver-partners

The “Driver Fee” refers to the S$0.50 flat fee that is applied to all Gojek trips less than 10km in distance, while trips that are 10km and above are subjected to a flat fee of S$0.80.

These fees apply to all GoCar, GoCar Premium and GoCar XL rides, with the exception of GoTaxi as fares are subject to the taxi’s meter.

However, the “Driver Fee” is not subjected to Gojek’s prevailing commission rates. Instead, the full amount of the fee would continue to be retained by driver partners.

This “Driver Fee” was put in place to complement existing incentives and measures Gojek has to support their driver-partners in making more earnings per trip.

Such measures already in place include a reduction in service fees to 10 per cent on all rides (until the end of this year at least), enhanced far trip incentives, and comprehensive measures to support driver-partners in response to COVID-19.

With costs of living continuing to rise and the macroeconomic situation remaining uncertain, we need to ensure that we too can be there for them and support them through this period.

The extension will provide much-needed earnings protection and security for our driver-partners, so that they can continue to earn a sustainable livelihood for the long term.

Consumers can make use of promo codes and vouchers

For consumers, the fee can be offset by continuing to use Gojek’s existing promo codes and vouchers.

These include the “GOTOMALLS” promo where consumers can get S$3 off two rides to or from any mall islandwide, as well as the “925 passes” where consumers can get discounts on off-peak rides from 9am to 5pm on weekdays.

The temporary “Driver Fee” was set to last until mid-year, but with uncertain and volatile fuel prices, Gojek stands firm with its goal of helping to alleviate the burden of driver-partners.
