Apps I Live By: Co-Founder And CEO Of HotelQuickly, Tomas Laboutka

“I don’t have just one, but close is my adaptation of Bruce Lee’s ‘Be happy, but never satisfied.’ This to me means to live mindfully and to the max of your talents,” said Tomas Laboutka, co-founder and CEO of HotelQuickly, when asked about his life motto.

It seems Tomas has taken this sentiment to a new level by founding HotelQuickly with 4 other co-founders, a few who were also previously from the Asia wing of Rocket Internet.

If you didn’t know, HotelQuickly is a leading last-minute hotel-booking app offering travellers heavily discounted deals in more than 130 destinations in the Asia-Pacific region.

Today, if you’re a spontaneous traveller never failing to say ‘yes’ to any last minute travel deal, then this article is not to be missed.

Do you know that rates on HotelQuickly are on average a whopping 28% cheaper than the best price online? It sure is pretty disruptive to all of our existing booking channels, but majorly advantageous to us travellers!

Today, we take a sneak peek into the homescreen of Tomas and discover the apps that perhaps aided in the creation of HotelQuickly one way or another.

1. HotelQuickly

“When I’m travelling, this is truly a priceless app! It saves me so much time (and money!) and I can focus on what really matters – not endless research trying to select the right hotels for good value. Just recently I was able to select, book, and pay for an amazing boutique hotel faster then what it took me to cross a street.”

2. Pocket

“Bookmarked articles saved offline to mobile and synced across devices. Very useful to pile up articles to read on the go and when the time is right.”

3. Skitch

“Fast sketching, comments and editing of docs, especially screenshots – so useful for product iterations. Highly recommended.”

4. Asana

“Team collaboration, project management and elimination of mails.”

5. Evernote

“For meeting notes and my daily task list. Synced across devices (although the sync function could be done better!)”

Thank you Tomas for this opportunity to peek into your smartphone!

As of today, HotelQuickly is available in Australia, Cambodia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, Macau, Malaysia, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam.  The team is also currently focusing on making the app more useful for travellers across the Asia-Pacific.

The free app is available in six languages and for Android, iOS, and BlackBerry 10 devices.

I must say, it’s one of the rare few apps to launch on the Blackberry. Interesting!
