Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Heng Swee Keat announced on his Facebook page that 940,000 HDB households will be receiving a GST voucher (GSTV) in October.

In total, all Singaporean HDB households will receive double their regular GSTV – U-Save.

Larger Families To Receive More Rebates

Of those households, about 155,000 larger families with five or more members will receive 2.5 times their regular U-Save rebates in the 2020 financial year, said the Ministry of Finance in a press release.

The additional GSTV – U-Save rebate supports larger families who tend to incur higher utilities expenses.

These additional rebates are part of the #SGBudget2020 Care and Support Package, said DPM and Finance Minister Heng.

Households living in 1- and 2-room HDB flats will typically benefit from GSTV – U-Save rebates that work out to about three to four months of their utilities bills.

Together with the GSTV – U-Save Special Payment given earlier this year, these households will receive rebates equivalent to at least six to eight months of their utilities bills.

For households living in 3- and 4-room HDB flats, their regular GSTV – U-Save rebates work out to about one to two months of their utilities bills.

They will now receive support which is equivalent to at least two to four months of their utilities bills.

Scheme Has Been Helping Lower To Middle-Income Families Since 2012

The GST Voucher scheme was first introduced in 2012 to help lower- and middle-income households offset part of their utilities bill and lower their household expenses.

All in, the Government is disbursing S$630 million of GSTV – U-Save this Financial Year.

All Singaporean households, including those who do not stay in HDB flats, would have received S$100 in Solidarity Utilities Credit for their July or August utilities bill.
