Huawei has addressed several concerns regarding the S$54 National Day promotion that went awry last week.

In a media statement earlier today, the Chinese tech giant revealed that they had prepared approximately 2,000 Y6 Pro Smartphones for the promotion, but “clearly underestimated the overall customer demand.”

“We are sorry for the disappointment and distress caused to our customers over the weekend.” Huawei said. “We did not carefully consider our customers’ well-being enough and should have been better prepared for this promotion.”

In response to the alleged difference in stock between stores, Huawei also told Vulcan Post that the number of phones available was based on previous sales records — larger retailers like Courts and Challenger received about 100 sets, while heartland stores received about 20 to 30.

Huawei also said that they are trying identify the woman who had fainted in the queue, and is hoping that anyone with information about her can reach out to the company.

While apologising is a good start, Huawei is also taking steps to make it up to their customers — the company is offering a S$100 voucher to 5,000 individuals who had registered on the 26th to 28th of July, and will be contacting them within two weeks from the 2nd of August.

This S$100 voucher can be applied on the following models: the Y6 Pro, Nova 3i, P30 Pro, P30, P30 Lite, Mate 20 X, Mate 20 Pro, and Mate 20. Huawei pointed out that the Y6 Pro — which retails for S$148 — would now be cheaper than the promotional price with this voucher.

“The team is working hard to ensure sufficient inventory to accommodate the demand.” For everyone’s sake, we sure hope so.
