The Land Transport Authority (LTA) announced today the extension of deadline for users to dispose their registered e-scooters which do not meet safety standards.

Owners can continue to dispose their devices and collect the S$100 incentive until the end of the year.

LTA is also adding another 30 disposal points islandwide, bringing the total number of such centres to about 200.

Out of the 100,000 registered e-scooters in Singapore, about 80,000 are not UL2272-certified and will be banned from public places from 1 July 2020.

This includes cycling paths and park connector networks (PCNs).

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) announced today that it will award owners of registered e-scooters a $100 incentive for the early disposal of their personal mobility devices (PMDs) that do not meet safety standards.

This move came after the recent spate of fire-related PMD incidents in Singapore.

Of the 90,000 e-scooters registered with the LTA, about 90 per cent do not meet fire-safety standards.

According to LTA, the disposal will take place over the next six months, starting from 23 September 2019 to 31 March 2020.

PMD owners can dispose their non-UL2272 certified devices for free at 180 designated disposal points across HDB estates or LTA’s office at Sin Ming.

LTA said that it is waiving the disposal fee for an estimated 80,000 PMD owners.

For safety reasons, PMD owners should only dispose their PMDs at these designated points. The e-waste recyclers will ensure the safe disposal as well as the recycling of any reusable materials and components.

How To Apply?

To apply for the incentive, e-scooter owners will have to use their SingPass or CorpPass account to submit an online application at www.onemotoring.com.sg to dispose their devices.

Successful applicants will receive an SMS acknowledgement, with a link informing them where and when they can drop off their devices.

They must present this SMS and proof of identity when disposing their devices. E-scooters must also have both the Identification Mark and Registration Mark affixed to be considered for the early disposal incentive.

They can bring their registered e-scooters for disposal by November 30. Those with unregistered PMDs can still get rid of their devices at the disposal points for free until March 31 next year, though they will not qualify for the $100 cash incentive.

They will also receive an e-letter (for Giro credit) or SMS (for PayNow) from LTA once the early disposal incentive has been successfully deposited into your bank account.
