Homegrown e-scooter sharing startup Neuron Mobility will soon be speeding up into Australia, as it secured the tender to become Brisbane’s leading fleet provider.

In a press release today, the Singapore firm said it went through “a highly competitive tender that consisted of nine other global and local operators”, and was eventually appointed to operate 600 out of 1,000 e-scooters permitted in Brisbane.

The remaining 400 e-scooters will be operated by California-based Lime.

With their expansion, Neuron will be bringing their patented N3 scooter, which hasn’t previously been launched before, to Brisbane. They will also trial the scooters in Darwin City for a 12-month period.

The N3 scooters are designed with 12-inch tires and a 21cm-wide floorboard to provide more stability and comfort.

They also contain a GPS-enabled parking indicator on the handlebar display to help guide riders to designated parking zones.

Besides providing their fleet, Neuron Mobility will also have an operations team on the ground to handle “daily maintenance, hourly demand rebalancing, and battery swapping”.

Since starting up in Singapore in 2016, the firm now has operations in Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand. Winning this tender means entering their fourth market, and their first beyond Southeast Asia.

Neuron Mobility CEO Zachary Wang said the company is honoured and excited to “be part of this paradigm shift in urban transportation”.

“In line with our goal to bring the best micromobility services to the Asia Pacific region, we will continue to invest in the safety of our riders and the general public, providing a seamless user experience and integration into the lives of the Brisbane community,” he added.
