Visual discovery platform Pinterest just announced the official opening of its Singapore office on 10 July, located at Telok Ayer.

With Asia Pacific (APAC) being “one of the fastest growing regions” for the company, the new office is primed to service Southeast Asia and India to continue supporting growth in this region.

According to Pinterest, “millions of people” in APAC are using the platform every month, a number that has increased by more than 50% over the past year.

People in these countries are also saving more than 7 million ideas on Pinterest each day.

The new Singapore office will be headed by Pinterest Country Manager for Southeast Asia and India, Ayumi Nakajima, who will lead a “small team of local talent”.

The Business Times reported that the team currently numbers less than 10 people in roles such as marketing and creator managers.

Pinterest plans to hire more Singapore-based employees, but will still keep its headcount small in the near term.

Besides focusing on increasing growth, the team will also support relationships with brands and publishers, and ensure Pinterest offers the “best localised experience for people from different cultures throughout the region”.

“With a team based in Singapore, we’ll be able to offer an even more relevant experience for our Pinners in one of our fastest growing regions,” said Nakajima.

“There is a great opportunity for brands, publishers and creators on Pinterest to connect with these engaged users when they’re considering what to do or buy next,” she added.

So far, Pinterest’s Singapore team has already been working with regional partners such as Vogue India, and MasakTV in Indonesia.

Through their partnership to help users discover inspiration on Pinterest for recipes to break fast with during the Ramadan season this year, MasakTV’s Indonesian audience “doubled” in a span of six weeks.

This is Pinterest’s second office in the region, following the opening of their Tokyo office in 2013.
