According to a report from Channel News Asia, Yahoo Singapore has been laying off some employees as part of the company’s move to revamp its Internet Business.

Yahoo Singapore confirmed to Channel News Asia that in early February, Yahoo had “shared a plan for the future, (and) with this new plan came some very difficult decisions and changes to our business. As a result of these changes some jobs have been eliminated and those employees were notified today (Thursday).”

No details were disclosed on exactly how many employees were laid off, but what we do know is that the Singapore operations will continue.

Yahoo is not the first Internet company to lay off employees amid the global downturn. Earlier this week, e commerce site Rakuten also shared that they are shutting down their Rakuten Marketplace in Singapore, as well as laying off 150 staffs from the company.

According to Comscore, Yahoo is still widely read by readers in Singapore and other parts of Southeast Asia. There are also many who has Yahoo News as their browser homepage.
