GigOut, a free app that shows you available concerts around in Southeast Asia, has just announced that they have entered into a partnership with Samsung and launched a Samsung exclusive version called GigOut! PLUS. The new version will come pre-installed in the newly launched Samsung GALAXY Tab S tablets sold across in Singapore.

Haven’t heard of GigOut? Launched last year, not only does the app shows you available concerts around in Southeast Asia, it also provides you entertainment news to the concerts and if you decide to go any of the concerts listed, you can also purchase the tickets directly from the app. The app shows you which concerts your friends are going too, adding a nice social touch to it.

Exclusively for Samsung customers and customised for the GALAXY Tab S, users will get latest news of upcoming concerts in Asia, enjoy great ticket promotions, meet and greet opportunities, and priority booking privileges on “GigOut! PLUS”, Asia’s concert discovery app.

Stefan Lim, CEO and Co-Founder of the concert discovery platform said, “We are very thrilled with this exciting partnership with Samsung, a major player in the AndroidTM smartphone market. We look forward to providing Samsung users with a portal to discover great concerts and festivals in Asia, enjoy exclusive ticket deals and make more friends with others who love music too!”

The app currently has over 10,000 downloads from the iOS app store. With this partnership, Android users will be able to enjoy the GigOut experience too. The app currently serves concert listings from 5 countries (Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Hong Kong, and The Philippines), and so far the team has tracked users from over 50 different countries. There are over 100 upcoming concerts listed on GigOut for its users now.

Partnership with Samsung took “months”

It is certainly not a small feat for a new company like GigOut to enter into a partnership with a corporate giant like Samsung and secure a distribution deal. When asked how long did the partnership take, Stefan told Vulcan Post that the whole discussion took “a few months of meetings, prototyping and testing”.

“Trickiest part was working on a short timeline with a platform (Android) that we barely begun building, and also on a tablet device, which was actually further down the road of development. But it turned out well!” said Stefan.

This Samsung partnership has also opened a lot of doors for the team to scale into Asia quicker than expected. They are currently raising funds and looking out for investors who are interested in the entertainment and mobile space.

Stefan advises that smaller companies or startups seeking this kind of distribution partnership with corporates to always network.

“I don’t think opportunities like this come often, especially with a giant manufacturer. While i’d like to say we were lucky to be at the right time and right place, i also always believe in being ready to work and deliver fast. A good and readily reactive team is super important. Another advise, network always! You never know who you’re going to meet!” – Stefan Lim.

The team of 8 at GigOut is currently focusing on rolling out a new version to its iOS and Android users.

Oh and if you are looking for concerts to attend, GigOut is the official app for Alex Goot & Against the Current, Live in Singapore 21 Aug 2014, at SCAPE Singapore, as well as Hoobastank, Live in Singapore, 30 Nov 2014, at The Coliseum, Hard Rock Sentosa.

So, see you there?
