TripAdvisor, one of the world’s largest travel site, has just announced a new feature for its smartphone app and mobile website that allows travellers to easily reserve a ride with Uber to restaurants, attractions and hotels in more than 40 cities worldwide. TripAdvisor is one of the first sites to integrate Uber functionality into its mobile experience by using the new Uber API.
What this means is that when you browse for attractions on the TripAdvisor, you can order a ride to the location through Uber. Users will now be able to see an estimate of Uber car fares and the waiting time for pick up.
By tapping a “Ride there with Uber” button, TripAdvisor will redirect them to the Uber app or mobile website to complete the reservation and send a car to their location. Users will only be charged if they get a ride, and fares vary by location, vehicle type and travel duration.
“We’re excited to partner with Uber to help TripAdvisor travellers conveniently find a ride to their destination in cities throughout the world,” said Adam Medros, senior vice president of global product, TripAdvisor. “Millions of travellers rely on the TripAdvisor app to help them plan and have the perfect trip during all parts of their journey, and our partnership with the popular technology platform makes our app an even more powerful travel-planning resource.”
Unfamiliar with Uber?
Before Uber launched its service, the only way for people to get around is through the public transport (cab) or by driving. If you do not own a car and want to travel by cab, you have to either flag down a cab or call for a taxi via a taxi booking number.
Uber changed that: You can now travel in style.
Founded in 2009 in the United States, Uber provides on-demand private drivers to anyone. Need a private driver now? Simply launch the Uber app, select your pick up location, and a classy luxurious car will be on its way to pick you up. You can also track where the driver is so that you are kept in the loop on his location. Its service is currently available in 43 countries worldwide, including Singapore.
First-time Uber users may create an account by going to the Uber mobile site. In order to create an account they will need to provide their name, email address, phone number and a valid credit card.
