1.5 Million Raised In A Way Experienced Gamers Know Best – Speedrunning

Awesome Games Done Quick, an annual speedrunning marathon charity event managed to raise over $1 million from donors for the Prevent Cancer Foundation. For the uninitiated, speedrunning is attempting to beat a game in the fastest time possible. With more than 160 speedruns, the charity event featured playthroughs that were nothing short of amazing.

With a target of $1 million set initially, Awesome Games Done Quick 2015 has managed to meet their fundraising target over the weekend, with more contributions likely to follow. The figure also includes sales from merchandise and a Humble Bundle, which is themed after the event. The fundraising total currently stands at $1.48 million which have come from 37, 027 donors.

Streamed on Twicth, the event showcased a wide range of speedruns, such as Dark Souls 2, New Super Mario Bros. Wii, Mega Man, Portal 2 and Battletoads across different current and classic platforms.

Highlights of the runs include speedrunner Runnerguy2489’s session of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time blindfolded and ovendonkey’s bizarre Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune run. There was love in the air as speedrunner Jackafur not only managed to fully complete Mischief Makers in an hour, he proposed to girlfriend Kittywawr during a cutscene. Talk about an action packed event!
