Instead of candy or toys, the Hello Kitty Vending Machine sells items like makeup pouches, bags, lip balm, hand lotion, shampoo and other adorable (not to mention useful!) goodies for surprisingly reasonable prices! The Hello Kitty tissue and pouches sell for RM2.50 while the lip balms are available for RM10.

Malaysia’s The Place For All Things Hello Kitty

It makes sense for the world’s first Hello Kitty vending machine to be in Malaysia. After all, Malaysians are pretty in love with Hello Kitty. There is even a Hello Kitty Theme Park in Johor Bharu!

Sanrio Hello Kitty Town is the first Hello Kitty attraction outside of Japan. It is situated in Nusajaya, Johor Bharu, ten minutes from LEGOLAND® Malaysia Resort and in my opinion looks pretty good!

Holding a 3.5 rating on Tripadvisor, there are some complaints of it being too small with overpriced tickets and nothing much to do. However, the general consensus is still positive, and other reviewers understand that the theme park is built for the children and diehard fans, who love it.

Loyal fans will be delighted to know that Sanrio Hello Kitty Town will be hosting its 40th Hello Kitty anniversary celebration from October 31st to November 2nd 2014! This is the first anniversary celebration for Hello Kitty in Malaysia, according to the statement by Phillip Whittaker, Chief marketing officer for Themed Attractions and Resorts Sdn. Bhd.  There will be four events planned for the duration: Hello Kitty Friend’s gathering, Hello Kitty friend’s Fiesta, Hello Kitty friends’ catwalk and Hello Kitty friends’ rock music festival.

Hello Kitty Fans Attempts Guinness World Record!

To show the multitude of Hello Kitty fans worldwide, The 40th Hello Kitty anniversary celebration will also be attempting a Guinness World Record for the largest gathering of Hello Kitty fans, in Johor Bharu itself. They are expecting about 10,000 visitors to come from all over the world just to attend the event. This won’t be the first Hello Kitty themed record-breaking, since Asako Kanda from Japan managed to get into the Guinness World Record book last year for owning the world’s largest collection of Hello Kitty Memorabilia. I guess there’s a first for everything!

In addition, the anniversary celebration will also be including a Hello Kitty themed designer competition for Malaysians to showcast their talent. Shortlisted competitors will have their designed clothing on the Hello Kitty Friends Catwalk while the winner will be walking away with RM5,000 in cash. The Rock Music Festival performances are set to include popular local Japanese Rock band Flying Pan and Malaysian pop punk band BunkFace.

What will they think of next – a Hello Kitty popcorn machine?! Oh… wait.
