Travel App Spottly Is Coming To The Apple Watch, Perfect For The Modern Jetsetter

With Apple’s hotly-anticipated smartwatch coming to us this month, and the opening of App Store submissions for developers last week, all bets are off regarding which apps will soon be coming to your wrist. For now, here’s one app you won’t need to wonder about: five-time iTunes-featured “Best New App” Spottly officially announced today that it’ll be available for the Apple Watch, joining the ranks of popular travel apps like Expedia and TripAdvisor.

If you aren’t already using Spottly, here’s a heads-up: it’s a free iTunes travel app for users to find, build and share collections of their favourite places in the world. Whether it’s a spot you fell in love at first sight, or a corner of the world you dream of visiting, Spottly’s a convenient way for you to save and organise all those must-visit places on your mental list. Since its launch two years ago, the Spottly community has collected posts of over 28,000 places, 2,600 cities and 125 countries.

So with this morning’s announcement of a Spottly Apple Watch app, sightseeing just got a lot more convenient for the tech-savvy and wanderlust-stricken. According to Spottly, their Apple Watch app will support actionable notifications:

“When a user’s current location is near a spot saved in one of their Spottly travel collections, the app will alert them with a notification. The user can then instantly obtain walking directions to the spot, via the app’s user-friendly interface.”

As Spottly founder and CEO Edwyn Chan points out, Spottly is “a perfect fit for the Apple Watch” — apps revolving around an on-the-go concept are ideally positioned to break into the wearable tech market. Unlike some other apps — why would you want your wrist to be constantly beeping from all your social media notifications? — adding Spottly to the Apple Watch makes a lot of sense. It’s a discreet, user-friendly way for globetrotters to navigate with just a few taps on their wrist.
