Even before we’ve properly come down from the iPhone 6 high, rumours are already beginning to spill in about Apple’s next big product release. Aside from October’s Apple event that is rumoured to introduce their new iPad, sources are starting to say that there is a new Macbook Air in the works – and this one comes in iPhone colours.

According to Jack March, who has provided Apple leaks in the past, a “source familiar with Apple’s plans” has revealed that a 12-inch Macbook Air could be released in mid 2015, with a thinner design. The thinner design will reportedly sacrifice various aspects of the Macbook Air, like the original USB port, replacing it with a reversible USB Type C port instead which is a fraction of the size. It is also said to be fanless, while using Intel’s Broadwell processor line to keep it operating in high-performance but in low temperatures.

The MagSafe port could be sacrificed as well, as it is rumoured that the new Macbook Air charges in a different way to what we’ve seen in current macs. I’m personally hope to see an innovation in wireless charging, similar to what Lenovo and Dell are promising in their new range of notebooks.

According to Jack, the source also said “the display bezels are noticeably thinner, quite similar to the current MacBook Pro Retina lineup”. I personally believe that this is an improvement, as the current Macbook Air display bezels lack the sleekness of the Macbook Pro. This would add continuity in Apple’s product range, and offer a classier look to the popular notebook.

Jack also mentions that the design for the keyboard will be from edge to edge, leaving “almost no space on the side” while the speaker location will be “above the keyboard and visible”. The current Macbook Air model has speakers located below to hide it from view, so this change sounds pretty unnecessary – unless it means an improvement of sound quality.

The most interesting change to the new Macbook Air is that it could come in the current iPhone colours – Space Grey, Silver, and Gold. This would be the biggest change in Macbook history, as they haven’t had different colours available for a single Macbook model since the original Macbook, that came in white and black. The Gold would be the most interesting to see.

According to International Business Times UK, Apple is already producing components for a thinner laptop, meaning that the Macbook Air might already be in production. With so many Apple products to be released (the Apple Watch release early next year), Apple fans will have a large range of new toys to choose from.
