I Signed Up For Singtel’s Newly Launched Singtel Music, Here’s What Happens.

Singtel, one of the main telco in Singapore, has announced that it has launched Singtel Music, the first service in Singapore to offer customers music from popular providers like Spotify, KKBOX, AMPed and MeRadio, with zero local data charges.

With Singtel Music, you can get a premium account from either Spotify, KKBOX, or AMPed, allowing you to stream millions of songs without touching affecting your data allowance. Similarly, they can tune into 13 MeRadio stations without impacting data usage.

“Many of our customers are big music fans, but they hold back from listening to music on their smartphones for fear of busting their data allowance. With Singtel Music, they can now enjoy music on their mobiles without spending anything on data. ” said Ms Diana Chen, Vice President of Mobile Marketing at Consumer Singapore, Singtel.

She added, “We’ve teamed up with some of the most coveted music providers and Samsung, our device companion, to give customers the ultimate music experience: freedom of choice, peace of mind at super values!”

On the pricing front, Singtel Music also costs less at S$7.90 per month if you signed up for a year. At that pricing, you’ll save up to S$24 in a year, compared to a monthly S$9.90 subscription to Spotify Premium for the same duration.

The Onboarding Process

As a Singtel customer and premium Spotify user myself, I hopped onboard Singtel Music the first thing it was announced. While I can successfully subscribe for Singtel Music, and they successfully bill me for that, I had trouble linking the Singtel Music with my Spotify account.

Here’s how the sign up process looks like:

The next two steps is just to confirm that Singtel will be billing you S$7.90 for 12 months. Upon confirmation of Singtel Music, you will receive a SMS notification to link your Spotify account via a specific URL.

SMS Notification which links you to an empty page?

However, the link is not available, which hopefully is due to an overloading of subscribers.

For now, I am just waiting for the link to be made accessible again, and in the meantime, both Spotify and Singtel Music is billing me for the premium Spotify account.

So if you are keen to sign up for the new service, we’d suggest you hold off for now, because even if you signed up for the service, you might not be able to link it with your Spotify account. We will keep trying and hopefully this problem is resolved soon.

Update: 11am 26th February

So it appears that the URL which I entered was without the https. Upon retrying, thanks for the folks from Singtel, I was able link my Singtel Music account with my Spotify account. Here’s the linking page:

Do note however, the page won’t work if you have an ad blocker, so if you were facing problems like me, remember to include the “https” in the hyperlink and make sure that you switch off your ad blocker.

Thanks Singtel Music for checking in!
