5 Things That Digi Has Been Working On Right Under Our Noses In M’sia

If someone brings up the name Digi, two things come to mind. One is that they are one of the Big 3 Telco brands in Malaysia. The other is that infamous “I will follow you” man in the yellow jumpsuit.

But under the hood behind this large brand in Malaysia is a secret plethora of projects that Digi has been working on. From the long-requested revamp of their MyDigi app to teaching kids how to build robots, they have their fingers in more pies than you might think.

1. Making Tourism More handy In Malaysia

In partnership with Tinkbig, Digi is the sole distributor of a handy service in Malaysia.

If you’ve ever travelled to a 4 star or above hotel in Singapore or Hong Kong, you’ll probably be familiar with handy. It’s a service by upper-tier hotels to provide their guests with a complementary smartphone that can help take them anywhere in Malaysia.

Services provided includes:

Tourists get to say goodbye to roaming charges, or buying a new SIM card.

And through their partnership, guests on the handy phone will connected to Digi’s network, with unlimited access to high-speed internet as well as local and international calls on 4G Plus network.

2. Introducing A Brand New MyDigi App

What’s on the app.

Not forgetting the end users who mainly know Digi for their Telco services, Digi has launched a brand new version of their MyDigi app, after popular demand. Incorporating what they are calling “enhanced user interface and services”, the new MyDigi app still offers its usual add-on purchases, bill payments, account management and the like, but now includes:

Another highlight is the MyDigi community, a dedicated forum-like collection of people where any and all Digi users can air their grievances, provide their suggestions or just have a friendly chat with Digi. So if you’re a Digi user and you’d like to have a more seamless experience with them, you can download the app on the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store.

To get more users on board with the app, Digi is also offering a total of 3GB free internet over 3 months when they download or update to the all-new MyDigi app (promo ends March 31 2017). You can find out more information here.

3. Doing Their Part To Battle Cancer

In collaboration with Christine Cheah who developed the idea, and the National Cancer Society of Malaysia, Digi did their part by developing an app called ‘Stronger Than Cancer’, available both on app and browser.

One of their latest endeavours, it took a year for Digi to develop this free-to-download app. It aims to provide a support network for cancer patients and bring those who aim to stop together through one mobile app.

This forum-style platform aims to provide information about cancer, with experts guiding the conversations from the National Cancer Society of Malaysia and supported by doctors and professional caregivers.

4. Helping Kids Build Robots With Petrosains

In yet another interesting partnership from Digi, they are teaming up with Petrosains to introduce a robotics programme for secondary school students to teach them basic designing, coding and sensor training.

This programme will be opened to students from schools surrounding the Pusat Internet 1Malaysia (PI1M) centres which are managed by Digi across the nation.

A pilot workshop was held at the end of 2016 in Kuantan for 18 Form 4 students who got to design, assemble and program their own robots with expert robotics guidance.

To date, Digi has been provisioned to manage 104 PI1Ms in Pahang, Kelantan, Terengganu, Johor, Melaka, Negeri Sembilan, Selangor, Pulau Pinang, Kedah and Sarawak.

5. Developed The Creative Crowdsourcing Site KreativeCrew

At KreativeCrew’s Event

“After running the WWWoW Awards for six years, we realized that we are missing the opportunity to meet a lot of talented individuals,” said Chan May Ling, Digi’s Head of Marketing Services.  “We then decided to work with Monad International to build a community platform that will facilitate people to share ideas more fluidly and be rewarded for their work.”

This was the impetus behind their creative crowdfunding site appropriately named KreativeCrew to do their part in giving opportunities for Malaysian creatives to actually hit the ground running and achieve their vision.

Still in its beta phase, KreativeCrew allows the creative talents in Malaysia to browse through the available requests for some creative work and submit their own design for a chance at the big pot, from graphic work to even scripts and voice talent.
